Charles E. Hicks
Dies, Former Grove Twp Man

Hicks died at St. Anthony's Hospital at Effingham, where he had been a patient since Jan. 22. Mr. Hicks would
have been 76 years old today. He had been ill for three weeks with a heart ailment.
Funeral services were to be held at 10- o'clock at the Bishop funeral home in Greenup, followed by burial
in the Hicks (Kerns) cemetery in Grove township.
Charlie was born Jan 27, 1872 in Jasper county. He held several public offices in Grove township and
moved to Greenup about 20 years ago. At the time of his death, he was police magistrate.
Surviving Charlie were a son, Cloren Hicks of Griffith, Ind; two daughters: Mrs. Inez Skiff of Phoenix,
AZ. and Mrs. Grace Leighty of Macomb, & a brother, Andrew Jackson Hicks of Decatur.

Doshia Hicks, 71 died suddenly about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 24, 1962, at the Mayme Gregoire home in Newton,
where she resided. She had been hospitalized a few days before her death for treatment of a heart ailment.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kerns chapel with Rev. Lester B. Laur officiating.
Burial was in Kerns cemetery.
She was a daughter of Owen and Laura (Strole) Hicks, and was born April 6, 1890, in Jasper county.
She was never married.
She was survived by a brother, Roscoe Hicks of Newton, and a sister, Mrs. Marie Kugler of Mattoon and was
preceded in death by a brother (Marvin) and a sister (Goldie Pearl Hensley).
